Uni has started

Monday I had my first class here at CBS (Curtin Business School) and so far I've been pretty busy running around campus trying to find my classes. The fact that it's raining all the time isn't helping either and althoug I'm trying my best, I'm wet all the time :(
Some of my classes have been pretty cool, some haven't but that's ok because so far I'm registered in 7 units and I just have to take 4 (so I'm gonna drop the ones that I don't like ;)

Tuesday night we had a Welcome Party at the accomodation where I'm living. It was free food, so quite many people came (of course they left after the food was served ;). On this pic you can see Paul and Louise playing Wee! in our common room.

Wednesday night there's always something going on at the campus pub "the tavern" and then there is also Karaoke night at a pub close to the campus. IT's always quite fun there since it's always packed with people. The funny thing about it though is that it closes at midnight. So this is something I have to get used to.

Talking of closing hours. There is a little mall just two minutes away from my flat. It's really convenient since I bought my whole household there (plates, forks, ...) but it also closes at 18.00 every day. So it's really a little bit laid back here.....

So that's a short up date from me again. As you can see, I'm really enyoing my time here and I hope so are you :)

1 week in Perth

Hey Mate!
It's been one week since I'm here in Perth. So far I've really enjoyed my time here and tried to settle in a little. Although my classes won't start until Monday, I've been pretty busy and therefore couldn't write as much as I would have liked. SO what has happened so far:
I went on 3 trips that went to Perth, Fremantle and it's sourroundings. On the first trip (last friday) we went to King's Park which is a park in Perth that is on a hill. From there you have a beautiful view over the city. Unfortunately the weahter was really bad and it was raining and freezing cold. So I felt very sorry for the Aborigines people that performed a little show for us. Well, it was a typical tourist thing, but it was still interesting to see them jumping around pretending to be kanagroos, bunnies or other animals.
On my second tour I went a little bit outside of Perth and got to know the Australian wildlife ;) We went to a wildpark called Caversham and there we got to feed all kinds of animals. And of course the kangaroos!!! There were so cute and everywhere. well, hope I'm gonna see them alive outside of a park as well ;) (Apparently there are all over the road but already dead then :( WE also got to pet koalas and the fat wombat..
On this trip we also went to a famous winery and chocolate factory, so you see, I had a really good time.... WE then went to a beautiful harbour (forgot the name but you wouldn't know anyway) where I also went to a huge aquarium. They had huge sharks there and I could see all the amazing poisonous animals. So I have seen them once and I defenitely never wanna see them again, especially not when I'm out swimming...
On my third trip I went to Perth city again and had some time to walk around. The main centre is surprisingly not that big. (The main shopping area is not much bigger than the one in Graz.) We then went to Fremantle, which is a little town right next to the beach and about a 15 min drive away from Perth. Unfortunately it's still far too cold to go into the water but I was brave enough to step in with my feet . I can't wait for summer to begin, it must be so beautiful then.

On the trips and also on campus I've already met quite many people and we hang out all the time. This is really nice and we have a lot of fun together. The people are mainly International (non-Asian) people because most of the Australians won't come until classes start. There are surprisingly many people from Scandinavia, UK and of course Americans. I haven't met anyone from Austria yet but there are some Germans. Everyone else around here is from Asia and so we Europeans are just a very little group that can easily be recognized (yes, I do have blue eyes ;) SO my accent is totally mixed up right now. It's terrible because it's a mixture of Austrian English, american, British and Australian English.... hope I will settle down for just one accent ;)

Last night we all went to the pub close to the campus. Every Wednesday night they have karaoke there and everyone goes there. Also some Aborigines and they are the ones that get really drunk...

Ok, that's it for now. I'm gonna try to post some pictures but that could take some time. SO far I've posted some on Facebook.
See ya!

Finally in Perth

After a really long (24 hours) flight I finally arrived in Perth. So far I'm here for 4 days and they have been great.
I live on Campus in a flat together with a girl from Singapore and 4 other boys (2 Americans, an Australian and a Malaysian).
The campus is huge and really beautiful. Unfortunately the weather has been pretty bad so far with a lot of rain and storms but as soon as it will get warmer (end of august) it should be really nice here. The centre of Perth is about a 10-15 minute drive away from the campus but public transportation seems to be pretty good (haven't had the chance to use it yet).
Well, that's about all the basic stuff I can think of for now. Take care and Liebe GRüße
